Aveiro was thrilled to be a part of the construction project of London’s first, 11,600 sq.ft, 30-bed emergency youth shelter completed in 2020. The need for this project and shelter was in response to the growing number of London’s youth who may be experiencing homelessness. The construction of the shelter was completed in two phases. The first phase included the demolition and asbestos abatement of three existing buildings on the site property. The second phase was the construction of the shelter itself. Some features of the shelter include a large glass curtain wall in the common area, six of the thirty rooms are barrier free accessible, private and shared washrooms, a full commercial kitchen, and green space for pets to play and for residents to be able to grow their own vegetables.
